Arrived in Retalhuleu, Guatemala - September 13

Hi, I just made it to Reu! I wish I could tell you all about it but I´m so so happy to be here and I´m extremely nervous and I´m just so full of 3000 emotions! Presidente and Hermana Goodman are the sweetest humans ever! I can´t wait to tell you all about my life here next Monday! Hermana Goodman told me that she put me with a Latina companion that knows English! I´m so so so so so excited!!! I wish I could talk to you more but I love you more and more everyday! Tell the family and everyone that I love them and that I´m here happily and safely!

With tons and tons of love,
Hermana Pereira

Leaving the MTC - September 7

¡Holaaa!

It´s my last week in the CCM and I have a million feelings going through my head! I´m so so so excited to jump into the work and just meet all of the sweet, humble, and incredibly faithful people of Reu, but I´m so nervous! I´ve never been so happy in my life!!

This week was pretty good! Our investigators are progressing and it´s so wonderful to see their faith in Christ expand! Teaching here in the CCM gets me so excited to teach people in my mission, just the only problem is, is that I can´t turn to my companion and say "uhh como se dice..." hahah but it´s okay because the Spirit is there and the Spirit is always the teacher!!

In other news, my companion got a blessing the other day and wow. The power of the priesthood is SO amazing. It´s so wonderful to see the miracles that come from being a worthy priesthood holder! I´m so grateful for the Priesthood and the Restoration of the Gospel!

This morning we had the opportunity to go to the temple! The temple is seriously my favorite place, you can always count on the Spirit to touch your heart! Today was the first day the session was in Spanish and it was SO difficult to understand BUT the gift of tongues is so real and definitely a blessing in our lives!

I know that this is the true and restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that through the gospel of Jesus Christ, we can and will receive happiness and so so so much joy in our lives! We are so blessed to be able to have prayer so accessible to us every second of the day! I challenge you all to pray and thank Heavenly Father for the countless blessings in your life! I know that by doing this, you will become a happier and more faithful follower of Christ! I´m so thankful for each and every one of you and all of the blessings that I´ve recieved from being here, preparing myself to teach the cute people of Guatemala!

I´ll talk to all of you in a short 12 days!

Con muchoooo amor,
Hermana Pereira:)

ps. I love each and every one of you who take time out of your day to email me! You´re constantly in my heart!

One Month Down, 17 to go!!! - August 31

Wow! It´s so crazy how time works when you´re on a mission, I definitely feel like it´s been a century and a half since I left! This week was probably the second longest week here and I have no idea why, I guess the new missionaries really messed up my quick weeks!

We got new Latina roommates this week! They´re super sweet (when I understand what they´re saying lol). It´s been so awesome getting to speak Spanish as much as possible! I´m definitely learning to love and understand the language the longer I´m here!

Nothing too crazy happened this week... my district is still so great, we moved classrooms, and I still continue to eat ice cream every single day. Life is pretty great when you have the opportunity to eat chocolate everyday! ;)

Our investigators are going great! Tomás is doing so great, we are still struggling with finding his need, BUT yesterday he told us that he wants to get baptized more and more each day! Both my companion and I are excited to progress with him! We got a new investigator this week, her name is Margarita! She´s Catholic and she wants to find the true church, but she struggles with obeying commandments. My comp and I have a pretty good idea what her wants and needs are and we are praying that we can commit her to baptism this week! Usually, Hermana Proctor and I are a lot better working with hermanas than we do hermanos!

Sundays are the absolute BEST here! They´re just super spiritual and we get to speak más inglés!! My companion and I had to give a Relief Society lesson on Knowledge, Light, and Truth! It went really really well considering we weren´t very prepared! Although, it was so great reminding ourselves how important the Light of Christ is in our lives!

In other news, I continue to lose weight, which is always a plus BUT my rings aren´t fitting on my fingers anymore :( And it´s also weird considering that I eat ice cream everyday... but, I´m definitely not complaining about the lost pounds hahaha

Today has been a pretty good day so far! I´m bummed because the temple is closed today, so we all went out with our super cute yellow Mormon Helping Hands vests, and swept the dirt roads & did service for the church grounds!! My district and I kept saying "Gracias por la oportunidad para servir la gente de Guatemala" over, and over and over again, it was SO funny. We are all so comfortable with each other and I love them all SO much!!

I´m so grateful to be a missionary and to be here learning a whole new language! I definitely have grown so much in the past month and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for me! I continue to pray for each and every one of you and I´m SO happy to see your supportive emails in my inbox! I wish I could reply to all of you! I seriously love being a missionary and all of the blessings that come with being an obedient follower of Christ! I challenge all of you to pray tonight and thank Heavenly Father for the thousands of blessings that he blesses each of you with every single day! I know that through prayer, you will feel so much peace and joy in your life!

love you all! xoxo

Jenny's Daily Schedule!!!

Jenny's daily schedule...

So I wake up at 6:30, and head to deportes (sports) at 6:45 and work out until like 7:25ish! Then we get ready and go to breakfast at 8, then we have class until 12:30, then we have lunch until 1:15, and then class until 5:30, then we have dinner, then we have class until 8:45and then we have snack (idk why snack is necessary but whatever!) And then we just have personal study and planning until 9:30, then we head up and go to sleep at 10:30! Usually my room goes to sleep earlier because you´re literally so exhausted by like 7 PM, that you wish you could just sleep forever!!

Got Pooped On and Still Had the Best Day EVER!!! - August 23

Hi Hi friends & fam!!

So I´m officially 3 weeks in and I couldn´t be happier! this week has definitely been a memorable one with some silly memories, that´s for sure!

So in our class, we have an "ingles chart" where if we speak a whole sentence of English 7 times, we have to sing a solo to another district... so YES. I had to sing and it was so horrible!! But honestly it´s a great way to stop speaking English that´s for sure!!

We´re continuing to teach Tomas and Veronica! Tomas is really progressing and my companion and I are so close to meeting his need which is SO awesome! Our teacher said this is the fastest he´s ever seen a companionship find Tomas´ need!! So we did a little victory dance, of course! Veronica is really struggling with her faith in Christ and the gospel :( but luckily, we´re really starting to develop a great relationship with her which will really help us in the upcoming lessons!

So every Sunday, everybody needs to prepare a talk because for Sacrament, the Branch President goes up and just randomly calls on one person per district to speak in Sacrament meeting! And you´ll never guess who had to speak on Sunday.... yeppp me!! It actually went really really well considering it was all in Spanish and I´m one of the newbies ;)

Okay, now for today! So every 3 weeks, the 6 weekers go out to el campo (the field) and so the 3 weekers (me) have to stay back at the CCM, but since the CCM has to be deep cleaned, we all went to the plaza where we passed out copies of the Book of Mormon to people! It was seriously so much fun!! We just jumped into the culture and it was honestly the best. My companion and I passed out 2 in like 20 minutes... and got rejected by like 8 but hey, the 2 really boosted our confidence that´s for sure!

Funny story, we were checking out the cathedral and a bird literally POOPED ON ME. I had poop on my shoulder and I was in shock, that sneaky little bird hahah, but está bien, it´s always a great day to be a missionary!

Not really much else happened! My companion and I are the only girls in the CCM for a day so it gets very lonely at meal time when we sit at an empty table, just the 2 of us!

I´m loving life here and the incredible spirit that comes with being a missionary! I love all of you and I´m so happy that you´re all doing so so so well in life!

Love you mucho,
Hermana Pereira
